Housing Scheme of Haryana Govt- Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana (DDJAY)

Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana (DDJAY) is a housing scheme initiated by the Government of Haryana, India. It aims to provide affordable housing to the economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG) in the state. The Haryana government launched the Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana in 2016.

Under the Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana, the government facilitates the development of affordable housing projects by private developers or individuals on a minimum area of 5 acres. These projects can be either in the form of apartments or plotted developments. The scheme encourages the participation of private developers to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing in the state. After the colonies are built, the builder must give the government 10% of the authorized area for free, on which the government will build some basic amenities for the residents.

Haryana State Government has discontinued the Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana Housing Scheme in Gurugram and Faridabad. The reason for the discontinuation was the high cost of land as it was not benefiting the beneficiaries belonging to the Middle Income and the Lower Income Groups.

The key features of the Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana include:

  1. Beneficiary Categories: The scheme primarily targets the EWS and LIG categories, which generally include individuals or families with lower income levels.
  1. Housing Units: The scheme focuses on the construction of affordable housing units with a predetermined carpet area. The carpet area for EWS units is up to 30 square meters, and for LIG units, it ranges from 30 to 60 square meters.
  1. Affordable Pricing: The pricing of these housing units is set at affordable rates to make homeownership accessible for the intended beneficiaries.
  1. Infrastructure Development: The government ensures the provision of basic infrastructure such as water supply, sewerage, electricity, and roads in the housing projects.
  1. Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for availing benefits under the scheme vary based on the income and other parameters defined by the government.
  1. Online Application: Interested individuals can apply for the scheme through the online application process provided by the concerned authorities.
  1. Subsidies and Incentives: The government may offer financial subsidies or incentives to the eligible beneficiaries to make the housing units more affordable.
